In his debut feature, an elegant, intriguing murder-mystery with a surprise ending and a superb cast, director Costa-Gavras deftly juggles various stylistic elements.
Six people travel by train overnight from Marseilles to Paris. When the train arrives at its destination, one of the passengers, a girl, is found dead in a sleeping berth. The police led by Inspector Grazziani investigate the other five passengers, suspecting that one of them was responsible. However, as the investigation is stepped up, the other passengers start turning up dead. It is then up to the last remaining two to solve the case, before they become the next victims.

About director
Costa-Gavras

Born in 1933 in Loutra-Iraias (Greece). He graduated from the French National Institute of Film (IDHEC). He first worked as Assistant Director alongside eminent French directors. Since 1965, he has directed a series of highly successful, award-winning films, shot mostly in France, but also in the US. Although Costa-Gavras' films are often very political, they appeal not only to intellectuals but also to a wide cinema-going public. Since 2007, he has been President of the Cinémath?que Française.
