Jury members: Zdravko Duša, Marina Gumzi, Ženja Leiler

By: Christos Nikou; Greece, Poland, Slovenia, 2020

      Jury statement
Organised into a coherent whole with some subtle strokes of the absurd, Apples is a bittersweet story about erasing and writing painful personal memories that can be read as a relevant parable of voluntary social amnesia. The film unfolds in a coiling spiral, like an apple peeled by its protagonist, so that at the end the fruit of oblivion – like the apple of discord – falls from the tree of knowledge – into a viewer’s lap.

      By: Marko Djordjević; Serbia, 2019

      Jury statement
The story is not big. In fact, it is so small that it could be hidden into a gag. And yet it persists for an hour and a half and it's a comedy, even though we are not exactly howling with laughter. Humour that feeds on the immediacy of the absurd and relies on sound acting performances. Innocence, intelligence and intuition make for an explosive mix on the editing desk of the first-time Serbian director.
