An autobiographical portrait of an eccentric film director seeking to give life to his abstract art with a circle of his most loyal associates and complete his latest film at all costs.
Marc, a 30-something filmmaker with outlandish and abstract ideas, is widely misunderstood. One day he decides to stop taking his anti-anxiety medication, which he believes is hindering his creativity, and complete a four-hour film that will unquestionably be recognized as a masterpiece. In practice, for those closest to Marc - his aunt Denise who takes everyone into her house, his faithful editor Charlotte, his assistant director Sylvia and general dogsbody Carlos - it's more about stemming the flow of the more or less zany initiatives which gush forth from the mind of the filmmaker, and trying to finish the film. But this is no easy feat and, to make matters worse, the film studio is threatening to cut off funding, but Marc sticks to his guns.
"What you see in the film happened to me more or less in that exact way. This was my motivation to write the script. I wanted to include in it what I had experienced during the three months I was working on the post-production of my last project. I had a lot of ideas, some very original ones, some very absurd ones, and I was not very well organised. This made life hell for the people around me." (Michel Gondry)
