for children aged 6+
Slovenian narrator Katja Preša
Nine-year-old Franz is the smallest kid in his class. On top of that, his voice often lets him down in exciting situations, and all that is left is a squeaky sound. Because of his blond curls, he gets mistaken for a little girl. One morning on his way to school, his homework gets wet. What will his classmates and his strict teacher Zick Zack think?
When giving an excuse to the teacher, Franz gets a high, squeaky voice and makes himself the laughingstock of the class, and the teacher shows no sympathy. Fortunately, his best friends Gabi and Eberhard always offer Franz moral support, but not even that helps much. When he discovers the influencer Hank Haber, who is considered a real role model for dominant men, and follows his advice, his two friends no longer recognise him. Only when Gabi suddenly disappears is Franz back to his old self. In the end the trio find again what they thought they had lost: the biggest friendship in the world.
"Gently and unobtrusively, the film addresses the problem of self-discovery in a time marked by the balancing act between diversity and rainbow families on the one hand and, unfortunately, the re-emergence of role models long thought to have disappeared on the other. /.../ Tales of Franz is a film for the whole family, entertaining and funny, but also with strong emotional moments and a great credibility in the characters. A film that encourages kids to stand by themselves." (Johannes Schmid)
